What is Sound Therapy?
Sound has been used for centuries as a way of creating relaxation, meditation and connection. Sound therapy uses carefully produced tones, frequencies, rhythm and vibration to create an environment in which the body and mind can slow down and relax.
During a sound bath, you simply lie back, get comfortable and allow yourself to listen. There is nothing you need to do and no previous experience of meditation is required.
The sounds and vibrations created by instruments such as singing bowls and the monochord can provide a focal point for the mind, helping to take attention away from the distractions of everyday life. Many people describe the experience as deeply calming, restorative or meditative.
The Power of Vibration
Sound is vibration, and our bodies are naturally responsive to vibration and rhythm. The resonant tones of crystal singing bowls, the gentle rhythms of percussion and the rich harmonic sound of the monochord combine to create an enveloping soundscape.
Rather than simply listening to music, a sound bath is an immersive experience. Sounds move around you and, depending on the instrument and how it is played, you may experience them as both sound and physical vibration.
Every session is different. Helen intuitively combines her instruments and techniques to create a bespoke sound journey, allowing the sounds to unfold naturally throughout the session.
A Space to Pause
Modern life can be busy, noisy and demanding. Taking time to stop can be surprisingly difficult.
A sound bath offers an opportunity to step away from the outside world for a while. You can put down your phone, let go of your to-do list and simply give yourself permission to rest.
You don't need to be able to meditate, switch off your thoughts or "do it right". Simply arrive, get comfortable and listen.
You might come feeling busy and leave feeling calmer, lighter and more grounded.
What Can I Expect From a Sound Bath?
Your session takes place in the peaceful surroundings of Helen's private studio in Croxley.
After an initial consultation, where you will be asked to describe your physical and/or emotional feelings (there is no need to outline a specific story), you'll be invited to make yourself comfortable on the recliner chair which can be set at any incline you prefer. The session may include periods of gentle sound, deeper resonant tones, rhythm and periods of quiet.
There is no need to participate or respond in any particular way. You can simply relax and receive the experience.
People experience sound baths differently. You may feel deeply relaxed, sleepy, peaceful or reflective. You may notice particular sounds or vibrations, or simply enjoy having some uninterrupted time to yourself.
There is no right or wrong way to experience a sound bath.
Afterwards, Helen will guide you through a gentle reflection, helping you explore your experience and uncover new insights and perspectives.
